“Take back our
government in 2010.”
There is
currently a movement in America to take back our government, restore our pride,
and reinvigorate the “American Dream.” This movement is embodied by the
Tea Party, the rise of associations like GOOOH, the current popularity of the
conservative pundits and the growing vocalization which occurs at town hall
meetings, on the radio, and on television. We can see this movement
around us with the success of the march on Washington in April; the elections
in Virginia, New Jersey and of course, Massachusetts. There is a cry
resounding, “Take back our government in 2010.”
However, what is
the real likely hood of this effort really producing results? Currently
the “movement” has no clear leader, it has no clear structure and counting on
the GOP to galvanize, reinvent itself and take care of business is optomistic
at best. The turnover of the house in 2006 and the election of 2008 did
not signal a shift toward the left as much as it signaled a reaction to politics
as usual. Unfortunately we got more, politics as usual and very little of
the “change” we were promised. The American public is built on being an
individual, and up to this point it was impossible for large masses of
individuals to accomplish much of anything. This movement, the Tea Party
movement, is exactly that. This is a movement of individuals that is
intersecting to voice a collective opinion, individuals screaming loudly that
we are going the wrong way.
So the question must posed, what can we
really change in 2010 at this point. According to Rasmussen Reports
Democratic incumbents who currently trail their challengers include: Harry Reid
in Nevada, Michael Bennet in Colorado, Blanche Lincoln in Arkansas and Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania. Barbara Boxer from California finds herself in a more competitive
race than usual. Republicans lead open-seat races in Delaware, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Dakota and Ohio. Democrats lead in Connecticut, and the race is close in Illinois. A commentary by political analyst Larry
Sabato, suggests that
if the election were held today, “the (59-seat) Democratic majority in the
Senate would be reduced to just 52 seats.”
Reducing the majority in the Senate is a good start, but is
it enough will this affect the “hope and change” that the American people are
looking for. Recently our President announced that he does not give up
and we will not veer from the course. He boldly stated that we need to
address the challenges before us, and he is picking the challenges. One
would expect that he will continue with his agenda, he will still have control
of both houses, the media, and be setting the agenda.
So what can Americans of today do to get the message across
that we want substantial “change.” Nationalizing
our industrial base, nationalizing our major corporations, taking over our
health care industry and subsidizing the financial community is simply not the
kind of “change” most of us were looking for. We need to force this to
stop and we have been shown a path to accomplish this by progressives now in
office. Several years ago Newt Gingrich took a nationalized message to
every member of congress and successfully took control of the House and the
Senate. This movement was later derailed with scandals. Tom Delay
was removed as speaker through the use of the court system. Sarah Palin
was pushed out of the Governors seat through the use of the court system. The
same tactics may have something to do with the recent announcement of Rep Steve
Buyer who’s foundation has come under scruteny. While
the actions of those who used this system seem scandalous they provide us with
valuable lessons. We can use these tools to our advantage as well.
So the question must be asked, would you contribute money to pursue the
traitors/felons in Congress in Court to stop them stealing your money and
destroying your country?

abuse of office, improper use of funds and wasteful spending?

officials whose responsibility it is to document eligibility if it is proven he
is not qualified to serve?
